  2. What we are working to achieve… • Enhanced • Core Learning • Integrated • Problem Solving

  3. Core Learning Core Curriculum State Standards Ideas already considered core, bringing additional ideas into the center…e.g., arts, technology, problem solving…

  4. Integrated Multidisciplinary Interdisciplinary Transdisciplinary These terms address a movement from more superficial connections among disciplines to a point where skills and information from one discipline is vital to work in the other(s).

  5. Problem Solving • Problem Solving • An ill-defined situation that requires the use of expertise from one or more disciplines, which typically implies collaboration.

  6. Enhanced Strengthening, deepening, broadening… Making something a bit better than it was before—how it is “better” may differ from one to the next.

  7. What we are working to achieve… • Enhanced – • What is getting better? In what ways? • What new challenges are being set? For the students? For the teacher? • Core Learning • What traditional areas are being addressed? What processes are used? • What additional areas are being brought in? How are they made “core”? • Integrated • How does the information/ideas/skills from one discipline support learning in others? • Problem Solving • To what extent are the children being allowed a degree of open-ended control over the outcome (e.g., new approaches, choosing their focus, determining meaningful outcomes)

  8. Documenting Progress Lesson plans Copies of student artifacts Videos Photos Anecdotal reports Numerical data

  9. Documenting Progress

  10. Next Steps • One or more well-documented implementation episodes (3x3, at least) by November • Exploring ways to document • Planning • Activities • Student Impact • Teacher Impact • Effect on Colleagues
