  2. Teaching Background Began teaching career in Michigan after graduating from Taylor University in Indiana. While in Michigan, taught in a public school for 6 years, a private school for 5 years, a preschool for 1 year, and a charter school for 5 years. After moving to North Carolina, first taught in Cary before transferring to NFP to be closer to home. 7th year at North Forest Pines.

BookBaggies 3rd graders will be assigned Book Baggies that will contain books for students to take home and read daily These books may be books that we read as a class or books chosen by your child. All books will be on your child’s reading level The purpose behind the baggies is to provide your child with ample reading material, help foster the love for reading, provide a means of helping your child strengthen reading fluency, comprehension and retelling skills My overall goal is to help YOUR child grow as a reader!

  8. Assessments are today’s means of understanding how to modify tomorrow’s instruction! • Mclass Reading 3D – A reading program that tracks students’ reading fluency and comprehension. Students are assessed in the beginning, middle and end of the school year. Home connection reports will be sent home to show your child’s progress. • Case 21 – Quarterly benchmark assessments that track students’ academic progress and provide data that identifies their strengths/weaknesses . This data is then used to guide teachers’ instruction.

  9. Common Core Curriculum- Adds rigor to today’s learning! Reading (Heavy on nonfiction) Writing – Narratives, Opinion Writing, Research Word Study (Root words, suffixes, prefixes, gram mar and spelling) Math (Area & perimeter, irregular shapes, etc.) Science Units (Objects in the Sky, Human Body, Changes in Matter, Soil and Plants) Social Studies (American Revolution/Branches of Government/Economics and Financial Literacy) Team Time (Offers enrichment/remediation)
