    • 1. find a land route to Pacific Ocean and strengthen claims to Oregon territory

    • Gather information about Native Americans

Battle of the Alamo was an important battle in the Texas War of Independence

Leaders: James Bowie, William Travis and Davy Crockett

Fought against Mexican soldiers (Mexican-American war)

Texans lost at the Alamo, THIS LOSS encouraged the remaining soldiers to continue fighting and eventually gained the Texan independence at the Battle of San Jacinto
