  2. Feed and LNAs cooled to ~20K Both senses of linear polarization used 2 gigabits/sec recorded on each Mk5B+ Total data rate: 8 gbps

  3. VLBI2010Goals Goal of proof-of-concept system Demonstrate ability to obtain ionosphere-corrected broadband phase delay on Wfrd-MV3 baseline using 1st generation signal chain. Goal of prototype system (not yet implemented) Demonstrate ability to obtain ionosphere-corrected broadband phase delay on Wfrd-GV12 (12m) baseline and (almost) final feed-to-recorder signal chain. 3

  4. VLBI2010Plans Proof-of-concept system – in progress Westford (18m) to MV-3 (5m) antennas 0th generation feed, LNAs, DBE1, recorder (Mk5B+) 1st generation phase/noise cal, UpDown Converter Prototype system – after ~2010 Jan 1 Westford (18m) to GV12 (12m) antenna Complete 1st generation signal chain 4

  5. VLBI2010Status Testing (proof-of-concept) Westford (18m) to MV-3 (5m) antennas Overlapping bands tests with phase cal correction Four bands at same frequency: phase delays agree to ~1 psec Contiguous bands spanning 2 GHz: RMS phase ~10° Source survey: four bands 3.5 GHz – 10.3 GHz for 10min 14 sources observed Maximum sensitivity ~6 GHz (next vugraph) 12m antenna Constructed, at factory Delivery waiting on pad construction at GSFC Dewar design for Eleven feed in progress 5

  8. VLBI2010Plans (1) Testing (proof-of-concept) Develop observable extraction from dual polarization Evaluate ability to extract phase delay from test data 3C273/3C279 switching 4C39.25 track for polarization rotation Evaluate distribution of band frequencies and SNR for phase delay ambiguity resolution and ionosphere determination 12m antenna Installation ~January (we hope) Use holography to measure surface/subreflector figure Test first with proof-of-concept signal chain (from MV3) Geodetic sessions with Westford, S/X sites 9

  9. VLBI2010Plans (2) RDBE/Mk5C DBE1/Mk5B+ emulation of geodetic mode AGC / auto state count corr’n / 80Hz noise cal / pcal extraction 12m antenna (cont’d) Install Eleven feed plus RDBE/Mk5C (March?) Source structure effect on phase delay External phase cal injection tests 10
