Premises Main questions to be answered: • What kind of industries (or industrial sectors) have the major capacity to enhance the economy of the State of Minas Gerais? • Which industrial sectors that produce efficiently valuable goods, are able to generate more jobs, wages and foster the largest effects on their supply industrial chains?

  3. Methodology To select the 10 industrial sectors, it was used the following methodology: 1. It were selected 88 economic sectors; 2. It will be used 17 criteria; 3. According to each criterion, it were selected the first 10thranked sectors; 4. It was added 1 point for the first placed sector, for each criterion;

Criteria Participation in National Production: Indicates the sectors in Minas Geraiswhich have the greater relevance within the sector in Brazil - Source: PIA-IBGE; Evolution of the Participation in National Production: Indicates the industries of Minas Gerais which have gained more participation within the sector in Brazil. Source: PIA-IBGE; Absolute Productivity: Indicates the sectors that generate higher value added per unit of labor. Source: PIA-IBGE

  6. Criteria Relative Productivity in Brazil: Indicates the sectors with higher labor productivity in Minas Gerais related to the productivity of the sector in Brazil. Criteria Growth in Export: Indicates the sectors that most grew in the last 14 years in Minas Gerais (With at least 1% of state exports); Education of the workforce: Indicates the sectors where there is greater participation of workers, with at least secondary education over the total workforce, comparing the industry in Minas Gerais with the sector in Brazil.
