ROYAL MONCADA’S CANAL • It’s one of the oldest systems of watering in Spain. • It is more than 800 years old and its water comes from the River Turia. • This canal is 33 km. long and it goes from Paterna toPuçol • It’s used for watermills and for watering one part of the fertile region of Valencia and for watering trees.

VISIT TO THE COMMUNE HOUSE OF THE MONCADA’S ROYAL CANAL • It was founded by King James 1st in 1268 and it was rebuilt in1953. • Its main aim is to organize the smooth running and coordination of the watering in the whole area. • This organization is presided over by the president of the canal and twelve “síndics” (members of the Administration board). They have a meeting once a month. • In this house there are courts of the reports of the farmers. Everything is oral as in the Valencia’a water court.

VISIT OF ONE OF MEMBERS OF THE ADINISTRATION • Students receive the visit of one of the “síndic”, one of the members of the administration board living in our town. • He explained them how the watering worked in our area and the main aims of his job. • Students asked him trying to solve all the queries they had
