The Age of Reason. [Also know as Neoclassicism or The Enlightenment ] 1650-1780. Reason is accepted as the supreme authority in matters of belief, opinion, and conduct. Because we can physically study it, Man and his world is now the focus of study, rather than God.

  1. The Age of Reason [Also know as Neoclassicism or The Enlightenment]1650-1780

  2. Reason is accepted as the supreme authority in matters of belief, opinion, and conduct

  3. Because we can physically study it, Man and his world is now the focus of study, rather than God

  4. Through examination and rational thinking, we can learn about ourselves and our world [Rise of sciences and mathematics]

  5. Religion and Faith, amongst notable thinkers, is taken right out of the equation

  6. Age of Reason thinkers, because they cannot go to the Bible, revive the classic works of Greece and Rome.

  7. Human and their abilities are now exalted. Therefore, humans are to be respected, and are endowed with certain freedoms.

  8. Intellectual freedom • Personal freedom • Freedom from prejudice, bigotry, and ignorance • Freedom from state sponsored religion
