Must Haves for a Good Historical Novel • A setting that’s integral to the story • Place and people have to be authentic • to the time in history • The author has to know the history period well • Readers have to be able to identify with believable characters • The story should evoke the similar emotions in character • and reader • References to well-known events, people or other clues • should help the reader visualize the historic framework • Readers fill like the know the time or place better
