  2. PILATES Mongoose Bodyworks offers sessions in Soho, in a tranquil and focused setting. All levels are welcome. Sessions are 55 minutes and are taught on both the equipment and the mat. The studio is dedicated to teaching students a deeper understanding of the body. We focus on using the mind to create deep physical changes in our bodies. Our goals are also embodied in our namesake the mongoose. Mongooses are known for their flexibility, strength and intelligence. Mongoose Bodyworks offers a variety of ways to experience the Pilates Method. For more information about our approach, Private Sessions The most popular sessions at this New York City studio are the Private Pilates Sessions. These sessions are one on one and provide the most individual attention. Duet Sessions Pilates Sessions can also be taken as duets; in this case the session is shared with another client. We find this works best if you find a friend to be your duet partner.

  3. Reformer Trio Our Reformer Trios have a maximum of three students, are taught primarily on the Pilates Reformer and are open to all levels. This class will provide a well-rounded workout that builds strength, flexibility and body awareness. Although it is not mandatory we do suggest a minimum of one private session before signing up for Trios, especially if you are new to Pilates Group Equipment Class Of 4 We offer small group classes of 3-4 students. These classes are open to all levels and require that the student makes an effort to learn the exercises. Although it is not mandatory we do suggest a minimum of one private session before signing up for our group classes, especially if you are new to Pilates. All sessions and classes are by appointment.

  4. BODYWORK WITH HALLE Bodywork sessions with Halle Clarke seamlessly combine Neuro-muscular Therapy(NMT), Cranio-sacral Therapy(CST) and Polarity Therapy. Clients are generally looking to address an ongoing area of physical pain, tension or discomfort. These sessions are geared towards clients wanting to address an ongoing area of physical pain, tension or discomfort or just looking to unwind and relax. Sessions often begin with the deeper work of NMT to release and bring blood flow to the affected area. Then, both CST and energetic polarity work are employed to balance the nervous system, encourage relaxation and enable the body to respond to the work. Bodywork sessions are done fully clothed. Shorts and shirts with loose collars should be worn so that each area of the body can be easily accessed. Neuro-Muscular Therapy (NMT) Neuro-muscular Therapy is a specialized style of bodywork in which, static pressure is delivered to release soft tissue tension associated with chronic pain or discomfort. Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) The Cranio-Sacral Rhythm is a subtle, pulse-like wave created by the fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord. With Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Halle uses a gentle, non-invasive touch and a meditative awareness to connect with this rhythm, which supports the flow of energy to “blocked” areas of the body. By restoring balance to the central nervous system, all other systems and structures within the body are enhanced and revitalized as well. The technique is also helpful for stiffness and pain especially in the neck, shoulders and low back areas. Polarity Therapy Polarity Therapy draws on the basic idea that our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well- being are dependent on the ability of our electromagnetic energy to flow freely throughout the body. When this current is blocked, it disrupts the fluidity of the energy flow, which can result in tension, pain and illness. A gentle and natural technique, Polarity Therapy seeks to eliminate energy restrictions to restore the energy field and, therefore, the body to a state of balance and health. MASSAGE Christine Ferris, LMT offers Swedish massage personalized to fit your needs and goals. Sessions with Chris may incorporate Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Zero Balancing, Trigger Point, Myofascial, Sports Massage, and Reiki. Chris is also certified in Pregnancy Massage. Her experience with the body comes from years of work as a Pilates instructor, choreographer, and dancer. Chris has an Associate’s Degree from the Swedish Institute of Massage and has been a

That’s the environment we strive to create at Mongoose Bodyworks, because whether you’re a regular client or stopping in to our Soho studio for the very first time, a dedicated Pilates practice can help you achieve a stronger, happier and more aligned body and mind. Getting Started At Mongoose Bodyworks, each session begins with an assessment of where the body is, both physically and emotionally, on that given day. Doing so enables us to set aside perceived limitations or ideas of how we “should” look or feel. Through a collaborative effort between student and teacher, we work toward empowering our student and teacher, we work toward empowering our students by building strength and flexibility from the inside out. Setting Goals For clients who come to us with a specific objective in mind, be it injury rehabilitation or to relieve a particular pain, the initial session will focus on determining strengths, flexibility and movement patterns that may be contributing to misalignment or discomfort. With this mind, we can begin to design a program driven by confidence and balance. Personal Practice Every session at Mongoose Bodyworks is tailored to the client’s abilities and preferences at the time of their session, combining appropriate movements and techniques geared toward gradual, lasting change. While one session may begin with Pilates breathing exercises to center the mind, followed by a fast paced workout and completing with series of deep assisted stretches, another may start by gently warming up the spine, flowing into a sequence of movements to relax and open the body and finishing with myofascial work to clear our any unneeded tension. Each session follows the cues that the client’s body communicates that day.   All of the Pilates sessions at this Soho studio use both mat and Pilates equipment Pilates sessions can be either more therapeutic or athletic in nature depending on the goals of the client. Privates and Duet Sessions are 55 minutes. Group classes are 50 minutes 

  7. Why Pilates? There’s a reason why orthopedists often suggest Pilates either before or after back surgery and even as a preventive measure. When working to relieve back, our practitioners first look at the underlying movement patterns, we can relieve aggravated muscles and joints right off the bat. Finding Purpose The goal of this first, imperative step is to achieve lumbopelvic stabilization (LPS), a technical term that refers to the alignment of the stomach, pelvis and hips ( or the lumber area). Pilates is the only exercise is so often utilized to address back pain But leave the complicated language to us. Our instructors have a wonderful way of simplifying the process, teaching each client how to retrain the body and the underlying mysculature in a step by step manner. Each lesson expands upon what the student has learned during their previous session, incorporating larger and more global movements gradually. The Bottom Line The effects of a regular, individualized Pilates practice are many and varied, improving stability and mobility, strengthening the spine and supporting muscles, and creating space between the vertebrae. More importantly, Pilates stands out among other techniques because, through dedication to the program , one begins to develop and ultimately embrace a new and much – improved physical connection to their body one that lasts for a lifetime.
