  2. Creative Educational Dance Creative educational dance (CED): can be defined as a movement form that focuses on refining natural movements. Elements of movement are space, time, force, and the body Once the have learn and master this form of dance, they will be able to create dances that communicate ideas or themes.

  3. Teaching Style Creative educational dance lends itself to the use of guided discovery and divergent teaching styles. The teacher poses questions that encourage students to analyze and explore the body and movement concepts. The heart of each CED lesson is exploration of the basic elements of movement. The process of exploration of CED content is filled with improvisation, which is defined as spontaneously responding to stimulus or “invention without preparation”

What is Axis? • Axis Dance Company is one of the world’s most acclaimed and innovative ensembles of performers with and without disabilities. • Founded in 1987, Axis has become a jewel of contemporary dance and disability culture. • Axis dancers with disabilities have included wheel chair users( both manual wheelchairs and power wheel chairs) crutch users, people with amputations using prosthetic limbs

What is Axis Dance Company’s mission? • To create and perform contemporary dance that is developed through the collaboration of dancers with and without disabilities. • To teach dance and educate about collaboration and disability through community education and outreach programs • To promote and support physically integrated dance locally, nationally and internationally.

Information about Axis • They average 1 home season production of 3-4 performances; 3 in the theatre performances for schools; 3 informal showings of student’s work; 36 school performances; 10-20 other shorter performances. • They tour up to 5 cities a year and occasionally they tour internationally • A production piece takes 60+ hours of rehearsal time. • There performances are targeted to the general public but extensive outreach to the dance community and the disabled community.
