1 introduction

1. Introduction

  • The SVD consists of

    • three layers of DSSD ladders,

    • forward and backward end rings made of Aluminum,

    • outer cover which consists of two half cylinders made of 0.5mm-t CFRP,

    • forward and backward support cylinders made of 2.5mm-t CFRP.

  • Supporting system

    • Heat sink of DSSD ladders are mounted on the end rings,

    • forward and backward end rings are connected by the outer cover, and they are supported by the support cylinders,

    • The support cylinders are supported by the end plates of CDC.

  • Precision of machining is better than 20 microns.

  • FEM analysis predicts gravitational sag to be about 30 microns.

2. Prototype

We made prototypes of the ladders, end rings,

outer covers, support cylinders and beam pipe.

were machined on NC better

than 10 microns.

Al-N heat sink, heat pipes, spring and 5mm pin for backward.

Heat sinks fixed on the backward end ring by spring and pin.

Al-N heat sink, heat pipes, spring and 3mm pin for forward.

Heat sinks fixed on the forward end ring by spring and pin.

How thermal bowing can be avoided by sliding

If we fix the ladder with sliding mechanism at forward side and push the ladder from backward side, sliding occurs around D=20 microns(or dT=10deg or f=7kgf).

The bowing of ladder is 10 microns at maximum with the ribs of BN (1mm thick and 7mm high).

We use weaker BN (0.5mm thick and 6.25mm high) and weaker spring than this test.

The bowing will be 15 microns at maximum

and small enough.

    • ladders, end rings and outer cover can be divided into two (left and right) halves.

3. Status and schedule

Real structures are under machining.

Real end ring under machining.

CFRP(E=160GPa) for real outer cover.

Machining schedule(June and July).

All components of the structure will be ready by end of July.

Assembly Plan(Aug. ~ Oct.).

  • Plan

    • Ladder mounting will start early Aug. and will end late Aug.

    • Total assembly will be done early Sep.

    • SVD will be moved to Tsukuba hall and system test will start mid Sep.

    • SVD will be ready to install mid Oct.
