Background • B.A. (Math) - Wheaton College (Illinois) • M.A. (Teaching Math) – Villanova University • Teaching at Conestoga since Sept. 2000 • 2011-12 is my first year at VFMS (as a teacher - I was a student here in the 70’s) • Ten years as an “at home mom” • Math tutoring • Good Samaritan Day School • Previous teaching experience • Delaware County Christian School (1982-90) • Wheaton Academy (Illinois) (1980-82)

Personal • Student in T/E school district for K-8 VF Elementary and VF Jr. High • Moved to Birmingham, Michigan during 8th grade (so I know how hard it can be to be “the new kid”) • Youngest of 4 – my sister and 2 brothers are ‘Stoga grads • Married for almost 25 years • Proud mom of 2 boys (19 & 21) - both study at Gordon College near Boston - graduated from Great Valley High School

  5. Organization • 3 ring binder with dividers for: - Notes - Homework - Assessments - Handouts • Calculator should come to school everyday • Textbooks may be kept at home – I will let kids know if they need to be brought to school (some on-line availability of texts) • Math packets

  6. Homework • An essential component of learning to do math! • Expect it every night - even weekends • Written on board each day – we get out assignment books as a class • Will be appearing on my teacher page soon • Work must be shown , diagrams drawn • Checked periodically by: • Spot checks • Homework quizzes • Turn in it • Grace is given for special reasons

  7. Grading • Total points earned / total points possible • Tests – usually 100 points • Quizzes – usually 40 – 60 points • Homework – • Spot checks , turn in – 5 pts. per check • HW quizzes – varies, usually 5-10 pts. • Turn in special HW – usually 10 – 20 pts. • Extra credit of various forms • Sudoku • Other practice
