Piazza dellaSignoria • Built towards the end of the 13th century • Surrounded by molto importentiedificio- Palazzo dellaSignoria, Palazzo degliUfizi, Loggia dellaSignoria and Palazzo degliUguccioni • During the Renaissance la piazza was usually used for public tournaments and feasts • Surronded by several important statues- Bronze Equestrain Statue of Great Duke and Cosimo, Ammannati Fountain • In the center of la piazza there granite disk showing where many were hanged and burned during the Renaissance • Collection of Alberto dellaRagione- collection of Italian contemporary arts by many well know painters and sculptors • On the steps of the piazza there is a copy of Marzacco by Bargello and the famous David by Michelangelo Click here to get a better look at Piazza dellaSignoria

  5. Piazza della Repubblica • La Piazza dellaRepubblicaè built on the remains of the ghetto, a term that originated in Vencie, describing a place where Jews were compelled to live. Certain remains sono still visible in la piazza. The ghetto was devastated when Florence was the capital of Italia for a brief period. This “era,” was responsible for the renovation of la piazza and the creation of le strade. Oggi, la piazza è un centrodi street performers and exhibitions. Il Davide Di Michelangelo • Originally located in Piazza dellaSignoria but then moved to Galleria Dell’ Accadema for better protection • Symbolized Florentine freedom • Copy was placed in its original site • Created by Michelangelo when he was not even 30 • So successful that Michelangelo was asked to draw a portrait of the Pope • Almost 4 ½ meters tall • Shows strength and filled with inner life • Gave David a look of authority with a lack of proportion-facciaandcollois larger then half thepetto, extremely large and strongbraccia- shows the virtues of a universal man

Michelangelo • Gained many titles such as The Renaissance man and Il Divino (The Divine One) • Born 6 March 1474 and died 18 February 1564 • Birth name was MichelangleodiLodovicoBuonarrotiSimoni • Two of his best know works are the Pieta` and David • Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer • Two of his painting are located La Cappella Sistina- Scenes from the Genesis on the ceiling and The Last Judgment located on the alter wall • Architect of the Laurentian Library and Saint Peters Basilica

  10. La Nascita Di Venere • La Nascita Di Venere si trova l’Uffizi Galleria a Firenze. La Nascita Di Venere shows the goddess Venus being born from the sea as a full grown woman. The painting was done by Sandro Botticelli, an artist also known for La Primavera, a painting based on la primavera. La Nascita Di Venere è considered a world-class masterpiece.

  12. Sandro Botticelli • Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni di Filipepe, better known as Sandro Botticelli è a renowned Italiano artist. Botticelli was born circa 1445 and died on May 17, 1510. Il soprannome, Il Botticelli, was originally intended per il suo fratello maggiore, ma it was passed on to the younger brother. It means, “Little Barrel.” He è responsible per several masterpieces, including La Primavera, La Nascita Di Venere, e L’Adorazione Dei Magi. In L’Adorazione Dei Magi, è is believed that he incorporated a self-portrait as seen on the previous page.
