  2. List of Animals in Qatar • Dromedary camels • The Oryx • The DabbLizard • Camels • Hedgehogs • and many sea animals and birds

  3. Dromedary camels An adult camel weighs 400-700kg, with a height around 2.1m at the shoulder. They have good eyesight and a keen sense of smell.A camel’s hump is made of fat; it has nothing to do with water storage but is an energy store. The length of time camels can survive on this stored energy depends on climate and their activity levels. The size of the hump can change, depending on the amount of food the camel eats. When food is scarce, the camel’s body uses the fat stored in the hump, causing it to lean over and droop. Baby camels are born without a hump because the layer of fat does not develop until they eat solid food.

  4. Camels have a thin membrane on the eye, like a clear inner eyelid, which protects the eye from sandstorms while still letting in enough light for camels to see. Double rows of extra-long eyelashes also help keep sand out of the eyes. And camels can close their nostrils to keep sand out of their noses.
