Plastic • Compared to metals, plastics have lower density, strength, elastic modulus, and thermal and electrical conductivity, and a higher coefficient of thermal expansion • The design of plastic parts should include considerations of their low strength and stiffness, and low resistance to temperature.

  3. Plastic characteristics • Plastics can be very resistant to chemicals • Plastics can be both thermal and electrical insulators • plastics are very light in weight with varying degrees of strength • Plastics can be processed in various ways to produce thin fibers or very intricate parts.
