  2. Charging a car battery in Adelaide is trickier than you think. It is not just hooking up a charger and get the job done. To carry out it with safely and adequately, you need to know it. Which terminal is supposed to be removed first, which one to be hooked up with the charger first, and how long the dead battery should be charged All of these aspects are essential. 3. Get Ready First Before you start the activity, arrange a few things first. It is called the preparation phase. Has the battery completely exhausted or there is some charge left? Remove the battery carefully from the vehicle. Make sure you have the necessary tools and knowledge of it. Some batteries are easy to remove whereas in some cars it is fitted under the fender. In some vehicles, it is below the seat. Once you remove it successfully, the first crucial step is over. Modbury Battery - www.modburybattery.com.au

  4. Jump The Battery Put every accessory off; small or big. Put off all the lights. It is an extremely important point. Get the battery down. Remove the ground cable or negative cable first which is black in color. You can see the negative sign on the ground terminal. The power terminal will have a positive sign. Clean the terminals with a cleaning brush and a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. Do not forget to wear a mask and eye protection to avoid any contact with acid. Remove the caps and check the water level. Add distilled water to refill it. Don’t overfill the battery. If you have a ‘maintenance free’ battery, then you can’t see the acid level. 5. Now It Is The Time To Charge Read the instruction manual of the charger. The basic instructions are: ❑ Put the charger off. ❑ The positive cable on the charger to be hooked with the positive terminal and the negative should be hooked with the negative terminal. ❑ Start charging with the slowest rate. Start timer and charging begin. ❑ Once it is done, put the charger off first. ❑ Remove the positive cable first and then the negative cable. Modbury Battery - www.modburybattery.com.au

  6. It takes around 12 hours to fully charge a battery if the voltage is below 11.85 and the charge rate is 5-amp. It takes 6 hours if the charge rate is 10-amp. The time depends on the open circuit voltage and cold cranking amp. If the battery doesn’t charge after putting it on charging for a stipulated time, then it is perhaps dead. You have to replace it with a new one. Modbury Battery - www.modburybattery.com.au
