  1. The Real World ProblemFUNction Emma Edwards 6th period

  2. The Real World Problem • Kiera and her friends are going to a San Antonio Spurs game. If the cost of a ticket is $195.75 then how much will it cost if she brings up to five friends with her to the game. (IncludeKiera too)

  3. The Equation • The equation to my problem is… Y=195.75X or F(x)=195.75x X- the number of game tickets Y- the total cost

  4. Independent and Dependent Variables The independent value is the number of game tickets The dependent value is the total cost of the game tickets y depends on x The total cost of the game tickets depends on the number of game tickets.

  5. Values

  6. Graph

  7. Domain and Range The domain is the x-values The range is the y-values My Domain is {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} My Range is {195.75, 391.50, 587.25, 783, 978.75, 1174.50}

  8. Continuous or Discrete • My data only has points and not a line so it is discrete graph not continuous. Also my domain is discrete. • I cannot purchase half of a ticket and I also can take a maximum of 5 friends to the game.

  9. Is it a Function? • A function is where there is one independent value paired with exactly one dependent value. • This means that the x values CANNOT repeat. • Since my X values do not repeat, then it is a FUNCTION!

  10. In Conclusion Kiera’s cost for the game is dependent on the number of friends she decides to take. She could have just spent $195.75 to go to the game by herself. Since she took five of her best friends to the game, her cost on tickets alone was $1175.40. This does not include the cost of drinks, snacks, or Spurs souvenirs.
