Background • Food is an essential part of the tourism offer in Wales, arguably because it provides the most common point of contact with visitors. • Local produce and a range of quality places to eat and drink are key drivers for visitors when visiting any area as noted in The Welsh Food and Drink Skills Project – October 2011 • Ffres – Launched February 2010 • Aims to strengthen the region’s food tourism product by supporting the development of a strong network of local businesses and organisations involved within this sector. • Sign up today

  6. Background – Taste Local • Feasibility Study • Launched 1st of August 2012 • £219,640 project • RDP Axis 4 Cooperation Project • Led by Carmarthenshire Local Action Group • Delivered by South West West Wales Tourism Partnership • Covers RDP areas of SW Wales • 15 Month Project

Background – Taste Local • Taste Local is a new, innovative food tourism project which has been launched with the aim of improving South West Wales’ food offer by exploring how delivery partners across the EU develop their local food culture. This will help businesses in rural areas to develop potential markets both locally and trans-nationally. • Opportunity to explore new and innovative ideas undertaken by other rural food tourism destinations in Italy, Denmark, Malta, Greece and Spain

  8. Elements of the project • Transnational Food Tourism Conference – Two day opening conference and one day – closing conference • Learning Journey Bursary Scheme • Digital Platform – www.tastelocal.org

Learning journey bursary scheme • 40 Learning Journey Bursaries • Businesses and groups within the food/drink/hospitality/tourism sectors of Swwales • Opportunity to learn and share best practice from partners • Application process/demonstrate benefits to your business/group • Visit partner countries in Italy, Denmark, Malta, Greece and Spain to learn and share best practice. • Fund 80% of the total cost of the bursary (up to a maximum of £800per business/group). • Post visit case study/video learning diary • Findings uploaded to the Digital Platform

Examples of possible learning journey bursaries • Food producer wanting to learn from one of our partner regions in areas such as production. • Hospitality business wanting to learn more about marketing and serving local produce. • Community group looking to develop a food trail or produce market

  11. Expression of interest • Forms available today • Closing date for expressions of interest – 7th December 2013 • Closing date for 1st round of completed application forms – 4th January 2013 • Bursaries will need to be complete by October 2013
