  2. Why Study Latin • Latin helps with English grammar and vocabulary. Approximately 60% of English words, 90% of words over two syllables, come from Greek and Latin. • Because it is an inflected language, Latin helps with any foreign language study, but it is especially helpful for the study of the Romance Languages. • Knowing Latin vocabulary is very useful for work in scientific and medical fields. • Latin is very attractive to law schools because of its training in analytical and synthetic thinking. • Latin is the living language of the Roman Catholic Church. • Latin helps verbal SAT scores.
