  2. The problem • Hawaii relies on oil for 90% of its energy. • This is a significant threat to: • Hawaii's quality of life • UH's survival as a Research I university • How do we help students become engaged and active in solving Hawaii's and UH's energy problems?

  4. Our Goals • Inspire your residents and yourselves to help solve Hawaii's energy problems. • Create community on your floor and lounge • Compete, win prizes, have fun • Satisfy your ResLife programming reqs.

  5. 2011 Kukui Cup in a Nutshell 3 weeks, 3 rounds, 24 events 418 players, 850 hours(4,094 unique visitors, 170,000 hits)

RA September responsibilities • Promote online participation by your floor • Compete to win on points • Compete to win on energy • Wear your Kukui Cup tshirt once a week. • Or when clean • Play the game. Learn about energy. • For your assigned workshop(s): • Attend 1 meeting with KC staff • Promote it to floor, tower, Hale Aloha • Attend and provide support

  24. RA September Rewards • Help create UH culture of energy... • sophistication, advocacy, sustainability • Help to test and improve a new educational game technology • Support an NSF research project on sustainable behavior change. • Get a cool tshirt • Play to win Top Score and Raffle Games.

RA Lounge Participation Game • Win a UH Bookstore gift certificate of: • $10 if 50% of your lounge participates • $20 if 75% of your lounge participates • $40 if 90% of your lounge participates • * "Participation" means the resident logged on to the game and did at least one activity (earned 35 points).

  26. RA Event Participation Game • Win a UH Bookstore certificate of: • $20 if the event(s) you sign up for exceed the "target attendance". • * See the game plan document for the target attendance for each event.

  27. What to do right now • Look at your game plan document, find 1 or 2 events you want to help organize. • Sign up on the sheet going around. • Your most important contribution to these events is marketing! • And you can win a gift certificate for doing it well.

  28. One last thing.... • The Kukui Cup will not end in October. • It will continue all year long. • More on that later...
