  2. Roads • engineers of ancient Rome built an unparalleled network of roads in the ancient world. • the original functionality of Roman roads was mainly designed for military exploitation

  3. Medical tools • Most of the modern medical tools were first created by the ancient Romans • These advanced medical tools were one of the reasons that the Romans had such a great army because they had the tools to heal their soldiers quickly.

  4. C-Sections • Caesarean sections actually derive their name from the Roman leader Julius Caesar. The Romans would use Caesarean sections to save a baby's life if the mother died during childbirth.

  5. Aqueducts • The aqueducts were tunnels and canals that allowed water to be distributed throughout the empire. • The creation of the aqueduct is the reason that you can access to water from any location.

  6. Census • The census played a crucial role in the administration of the Roman Empire, as it was used to determine taxes. • provided a register of citizens and their property from which their duties and privileges could be listed

  7. Bathhouses • baths were the ancient Roman equivalent of community centers • The Romans believed that good health came from bathing • Emperors often built baths to gain favor for themselves and to create a lasting monument of their generosity

  9. Domes • The Romans were the first builders in the history of architecture to realize the potential of domes • Domes were introduced in a number of Roman building types such as temples, thermae, palaces, mausoleumand later also churches

  10. Stuff • The Romans were good at building roads and bridges, but not so keen on machines • The Romans invented war machines, like catapults

  11. Coliseum • Under the emperor Titus the Coliseum, which his father Vespasian had begun, was completed • Coliseum was the venue for gladiatorial and animal fights

  12. Stuff • Towns and forts had underground drains to take away dirty water and sewage. • Fresh clean water and sewers are important. Without them, people risk catching diseases from drinking dirty water or from sewage left around streets and houses.
