  1. HMA Catalogue Update Presented By Paul Kopp On behalf of Jolyon Martin, ESA Summarising many presentations from HMA CDR/CEN workshop 6th September, ESRINInputs from (JRC, FAO, Spacebel …) The ghost of Christmas future …. We trust not!I guess you had to be at the previous reviews to understand to understand

  2. Context From PBEO GS Task Force • Scope: Earth Observation Ground Segment interfaces HMA considers the following services (interfaces) Catalogue, Ordering,Programming,On-line data accessinterfaces for Earth Observation Products This report concentrates on Catalogue

  3. Standardisation Overview Considerable effort to align catalogue access for EO data to OGC CAT standards (and those likely to be endorsed by EU SDI standards: INSPIRE) 2 profiles being developed to align to the major flavours Analysis (and pressure) to align these togeather HMA documents / proposals in blue.

  4. Introduction 06-079 • Most focus to date on alignement with OGC ISO profile, see HMA discussion paper: OGC 06-079 • Document presented in similar way as CSW ISO AP • Scope: Only "datasets", not for "dataset collections" for which CSW ISO AP will be used. • Objectives: • Information model suitable for CSW as well as WFS • XML messages for query valid w.r.t. CSW ISO AP • Loose schemas (with textual restrictions) versus strict schemas

  5. Metadata Overview • GML payload aligned with ISO 19115 (19139 schema) and 19115-part II draft. • Further work required: • Management of HMA metadata at collection level • To be seen if ISO type definitions can be re-used further in schema • Better use of GML structures (review comments from GALDOS/Ron Lake) xyz.xsd phr.xsd Catalogue metadata for specific mission sar.xsd ohr.xsd atm.xsd Catalogue metadata for mission type hma.xsd Catalogue metadata for EO products gml Generic and geometric smXML - gmd (ISO 19139) Collection level metadata Schema/namespaces for optical missions Schema/namespaces for atmospheric missions Schema/namespace for radar missions

  6. Information Model • EO dataset collections and EO datasets CSW ISO AP CSW EO AP

  7. Information Model • Layered OUTPUTSCHEMA • Also "layered" queryables.

  8. Protocol Binding Stateless protocol (avoids resultset handling complexities from old z39.50 search protocol) Considerable effort to make protocol architectural neutral … e.g. applicable to two tier (client server) and three tier (middleware) implementations Push for mandatory (and only) SOAP/HTTP bindings for EO profile to avoid proliferation of methods (and allow layering of user/policy management outside the catalogue protocol) client CSW EO Profile Optical Catalogue Instance GetCapabilities Return catalogue properties Capabilities GetRecords Compose record structure requested by client hmaRecord GetRecordsById Compose most detailed record ohrRecord DescribeRecord Return schema information

  9. Client Catalogue (local) Catalogue (FED_1) Catalogue (FED_2) Catalogue (FED_n) Distributed search • The OGC idea of a distributed search is to start a search from a known location and to search transitively federated catalogues with the same set of attributes (*). Client formulates a query Cumulated resultset Catalogue searches local and distributes query *source: Conterra presentation FAO workshop 27/04/2006

  10. Client Service Orchestration(DAIL) Catalogue (FED_1) Catalogue (FED_2) Catalogue (FED_n) Distributed search • The HMA distributed search is to proposes to search federated catalogues via service orchestration, where federated catalogues are discovered in collection catalogue or selected based on collection ID. Client formulates a query Cumulated resultset distributed query

  11. CSW EO AP (Datasets) CSW EO AP (Datasets) client CSW ISO AP via orchestration (Datasets & dataset collections) CSW ISO AP (Dataset collections) CSW EO AP (Datasets) Filter collections using part of original filter which relates to collection metadata GetRecords(dataset,f1+f2) GetRecords(dataset collection,f1) isoRecord with Matching collections "c" Filter products using part of original filter which relates to product metadata For collections found in step above GetRecords(dataset, filter on "c",f2) hmaRecord Combine isoRecord for collections and hmaRecord for products in new isoRecord isoRecord ISO AP Implem. Guidance Overall approach supporting two main scenarios: (1) Agency Client (2) ISO compatible client (illustrated here)

  12. Future work for HMA • Future Work: • Integrate work from ISO AP CSW RWG, e.g. WSDL, full schemas etc. • Integrate comments from external reviewers • Update taking into account on base specifications. • Implement the proposed interfaces in the HMA prototype and existing EO Ground Segments (November) • Propose CSW Application Profile for EO based on ebRIM compatible with 079-079 and 06-080 as a separate document. • Implement Conformance tests (CITE) support for the CSW Application Profile for EO.

  13. Coordinating with JRC See JRC interoperability experiment Trying toavoidthis:

  14. Coordinating with JRC And trying toavoidhaving to implement to many of these ie. Not much change since the days of INFEO

  15. Coordinating with FAO

  16. Thanks for your attention More details from Jolyon.Martin@esa.intSee you at the OGC Technical Committee in Oct.?Not so far away on the other side of DC. Don’t forget to try the crab cakes PS. Let me know if this was Paul’s reaction to being asked to do another presentation on my behalf
