  2. REFLEXIVE VERBS The subject of the verb receives the action of the verb. The person doing the verb receives the result of the verb being done.

  3. Non-Reflexive: I wash the car. Yo lavo el carro. Subject: I (yo) Recipient: car Reflexive: I wash myself. Yo melavo. Subject: I (yo) Recipient: myself (me)

  4. Non-Reflexive: The girl dressed the baby. La chica vistió al niño. Subject: girl (chica)Recipient: baby (niño) Reflexive: The boy dressed himself. El chico se vistió. Subject: boy (chico) Recipient: himself (se)

  5. Reflexive Pronouns: me nos te os se se

  6. Reflexive Pronouns • have the same placement rules as Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns. • Reflexive Pronouns are placed: • Before a conjugated verb • After and attached to an infinitive (unconjugated verb) • After and attached to a gerrund (-ando/-iendo)

  7. Reflexive Verbs are easy to recognize in their infinitive(unconjugated)form. acostar maquillar levantar se se se

  8. To Conjugate Reflexive Verbs: • Take the se off the end of the infinitive and move it to the front of the verb. • Change the se to the appropriate pronoun based on your subject (or leave it the same) • Conjugate your infinitive verb as normal. nos me os te levantar se

  11. Reflexive Verbs • Any verb can be a reflexive verb. However, not all verbs make sense reflexively. (comerse…yikes!) • Reflexive verbs can be conjugated in any tense. (present, preterit, imperfect, future, etc)

Reflexive Verbs Many times the meaning of a verb changes when it becomes reflexive: levantar – to liftlevantarse – to get up(literally to lift oneself up) poner – to putponerse – to put onto place (get dressed) dormir – to sleepdormirse – to fall asleep arreglar-to arrange arreglarse – to get ready Etc…
