Chapter’s Responsibilities Membership • Each chapter should have a Membership Chair person either from the local BOD or active member • This person is the Chapter’s Representative on NYSCHP Membership Committee • Review Monthly Membership Reports • Establish and Maintain a Membership Committee • Establish and Maintain A Member Recognition Program • Non-renewed Member Surveys • Facilitates Communication with NYSCHP

  6. Membership Types: Active • Voting type (caution Changing) • Pharmacist $205 • Joint (husband/wife) $205 + $100 • Retired $50 • Pledge Members: graduated or finished residency • P1 Resident or graduated/finished in last 12 months $50 • P2 graduated/finished in last 24 months $100

  7. Associate, Non Voting • Supportive (aka industry) $205 • Technicial / Technician $ 25 • T1 member in 1st 12 months $10 • T2 member in 13th-24th months $15 • Student member • 1 year student or resident, $20 • 1 year student + ASHP student member $68 • 4 year student $50

Know Member Needs • Driving principle: • Eliciting member feedback demonstrates the importance the organization places on its members • Periodic Member Surveys • CE Programs, remind about CESally on line programs that are available • Opinions and Feedback • Publicize Results • Surveys for chapter use available on Website

  15. Examples of Recruitment Initiatives Bring a friend at the member rate to a meeting Give gifts to members who recruit a new member or Pharmacy week Flash drives, pins, pens, key chains. Initiate new discussion groups/forums Clinical Practitioners, Informatics + Pharmacy Use to share ideas, common problems Review national specialty meeting proceedings i.e. Infectious Diseases, HIMSS

Initiatives with community service • Participate as a group in a community service event where membership is not needed. • DEA take back days, neighborhood cleanup • AIDS, Cancer walks • Community teaching programs with students: Asthma/inhaler clinics, Brown Bag Medication clinics at senior centers. • Take pictures for newsletters, introductions at meetings

  17. Recruitment & Retention Grants • Monies available from NYSCHP for each chapter (up to $500) that can be applied for. • Use to fund specific activity related to Recruitment • Submit application and estimate to NYSCHP office

Establish and Maintain a Program to Encourage Student Involvement • Student Liaison Program • Encourage Membership • Identify students to participate on Chapter BOD • Include at Chapter Meetings • “Peer / Organization Day” • Participate in Student Activities • Student/Resident Clinical Pearl or posters at a membership meeting • Include faculty liaisons in chapter activities

Student Societies + Annual needs • To maintain official ASHP recognition • 1 Membership drive • Career development activity • Minimum 2 events featuring speakers representing health-system practice • Informational session about residents • Professional Development project • See ASHP Member center Pharmacy student forums.

Maintain Regular Communication with NYSCHP & you • Disseminate information received from the council office as well as your upcoming dates/events • Forward required chapter information to the council office in a timely fashion • Contact council office with difficult to resolve member issues. • Chapter responsiveness to requested information

Cultivate Leadership • Strong Leadership = Chapter Growth • Identify individuals with leadership potential • Vocal members, residents, student liaisons • Personally approach individuals, create or direct them to opportunities to participate. • Outreach coordinator for community service Residents Networking group • Diverse BOD, invite new members to attend • Encourage participation in chapter activities • Team new member with another to run event • NYSCHP leadership development
