CAR RECEIVERS with RDS • What about the availability of the car receivers with RDS? • In North America: • Difficult to purchase in a specialized shop a car receiver with RDS • Factory installed car receivers with RDS - GM, NISSAN, European cars • About 70% of the brand new cars • In Latin America: • Good penetration with new models (Renault, Peugeot-Citroen, GM, Volkswagen • Most of them only support the PS but not the RT

TRAFFIC MESSAGE CHANNEL • Dynamic application • Traffic Message Channel • TMC is another possibility to broadcast updated traffic information • This RDS application enables the diffusion of weather situations or traffic information in real time in the same time than the audio program. • TMC messages are decoded by a car radio or a navigation system. • Messages can be decoded into the language of the user.

To continue the service, a one-year subscription is $60.00.

EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEMS • Existing emergency communications systems failed during the terrorist attacks of 09-11-01 and during the catastrophic hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005. • These events also illustrated the failure of cell, web, and satellite based communications systems. These systems were significantly damaged or destroyed during the event. Katrina and Rita caused tri-state outages that lasted several weeks. None of these systems offers a viable platform for communications during, or immediately after a catastrophic event. • Global Security Systems GSSNet First Alert System uses the existing worldwide FM broadcast infrastructure to provide Target Area Coverage using a proprietary secure, encryptable, layered and survivable communications platform. This is achieved with full power and signal redundancy and without nodal vulnerability inherent in other communication systems.

Understanding means, the radio station can tell the receiver, - that Madonna is an "artist" Material Girl is the "title", but also - that 0800123456 is the "hotline phone number" and 08002132123 is the "sms number to purchase the song"

  18. OTHERS DEVICE with RDS • iPod: Apple’s iPod has been a runaway market success. It is now possible to purchase an accessory for the iPod that will add a full FM band receiver. This receiver uses the display on the iPod Nano or Video. Aside from displaying FM frequency, it also shows the RDS information of the selected station.
