  1. NETWATCH: Support to Mutual Learning and collaboration between national programmes • Analysing ERA-NETs and supporting mutual learning • The ERA-NET scheme was launched in 2002 under the 6th Framework Programme to step up the cooperation and coordination of research activities carried out at national or regional level in the Member States (MS) and Associated States. • ERA-Nets and related joint programming activities are at the heart of European Research Area (ERA) philosophy. • One of the recommendations made by the ERA-NET Expert Review Group to the Commission (Horvat et al., 2006) was the creation of a common information platform on ERA-NET activities and the promotion of mutual learning. • What is NETWATCH? • NETWATCH is a new activity of the KFG Unit conducted in close collaboration with DG RTD Directorate B. • NETWATCH is creating a central information platform under ERAWATCH on European transnational R&D progarmme collaboration. • Its main goals are: • To promote and facilitate mutual learning among programme managers and owners. • To analyse the inter-linkages between MS and between MS and the EU. • To provide an analytical framework to assess the impact of ERA-NETs and other formalized. transnational collaboration programmes on ERA • Results in 2008 • Web-site architecture for the central information platform • Analytical framework for mapping, assessing and monitoring ERA-NETs in the context of ERA. • Future Activities (2009-2011) Online NETWATCH web platform, including: • Factual information on ERA-NEts • Results of analytical work • Interactive features: mutual learning platform • News section • Mutual Learning • There will be three levels of stakeholder engagement: • Networking through social computing technologies. • Community building through exchange of experience and good practices. • Active involvement in shaping the analytical framework and in ongoing provision of information. • Analytical Framework • Based on the evidence gathered within the project, ERA-NETs and other formalised transnational R&D collaboration will be analysed.
