  1. AMSR-E and GCOM-W A few issues Elena Lobl Telluride, CO 16 July 2008

  2. AMSR-E and GCOM-W Science Teams • AMSR-E Team Lead group funded through 2009, extra two years optional • AMSR-E Science Team members funded through ROSES contracts through 2010 • GCOM-W Science Team to start in early 2009 (?) • How can the AMSR-E Science Team participate in the GCOM-W activities? • US AMSR-E team would like to continue collaborating with the JAXA GCOM-W team in a similar manner as the US&JAXA AMSR-E teams have done Joint AMSR Science Team meeting

  3. Questions about GCOM-W (and AMSR2): • Data availability? would prefer L0 or L1 • Details about the instrument: - main reflector and warm load construction (details of the materials, location of thermocouples, …), - instrument temp telemetry (points locations), - receivers noise figures, - RF filter characteristics, - integration times, - any other differences from AMSR-E Joint AMSR Science Team meeting

  4. Schedule of events • Fall 2008: End of Prime Mission Review • Winter 2009: first GCOM-W meeting(??) • Spring 2009: Senior Review • Summer 2009: Aqua or A-train science team workshop/AMSR Science Team meeting (East coast) • 4 days: plenary, separate instrument meetings, multiple workshops by themes • Summer 2009: IGARSS AMSR invited session in S. Africa Joint AMSR Science Team meeting

  5. US AMSR-E Algorithms Updates • Which algorithms will be updated (and when) • “Unite*” (not combine or merge) the following algorithms: • Ocean and Sea ice • Rainfall and Snow • Land (SM) and Rainfall • Verify the ‘consistency’ within the AMSR-E Team’s algorithms • Demonstration of the ‘consistency’ should be presented at the next AMSR meeting (~June 09) *to bring things together to form or act as a unit Combine: unite chemically to form a single compound Merge: combine or unite to form a single entity Joint AMSR Science Team meeting

  6. Direct Broadcast (DB) Stations’ Data • Draft plan: • NSIDC to publish a listing of DB stations with the areas covered by each station • Users to obtain the data directly from the desired DB stations and processing it at their site, using the AMSR-E algorithms stored at NSIDC Joint AMSR Science Team meeting
