  2. Bachelor of Occupational Therapy • This degree takes four years fulltime at the UoN. • The degree expects learners to be self-directed and involves interactive, case-based and cooperative learning, problem-solving and creative thinking. www.newcastle.edu.au

  3. Bachelor of Occupational Therapy • It includes extended periods of Professional Practice Placements, which may require the students to live elsewhere in Australia. These clinical hours must total 1000 hours to maintain accreditation with the World Federation of Occupational Therapists expectations.   4. Bachelor of Occupational Therapy • We encourage males and females. • It includes study in biomedical science, psychology, public health as well as occupational science and the knowledge and skills of occupational therapy. www.newcastle.edu.au

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy • Our graduates work in many places around Australia and after a few years of experience work overseas in various countries around the world. • Many of them begin working as soon as they graduate, others have a travelling holiday and then find work a few months after they complete their degree. www.newcastle.edu.au

  7. Occupational Performance Person (P) Environment (E) Occupation (O) The discipline of Occupational Therapy • We consider the person, the environment and the occupation and the way these interact to affect participation in Activities of Daily Life. (ADL). www.newcastle.edu.au

The discipline of Occupational Therapy • The person is more than the physical aspect – the person involves the interaction of physical, psychological, social, intellectual and spiritual aspects – which affect abilities to perform daily occupations spiritual physical cognitive emotional previous social experiences www.newcastle.edu.au

The discipline of Occupational Therapy • The home or communal Environment (physical, social and legislative) can either support or restrict performance of occupations. • Thus Occupational Therapy is trained to modify especially the physical environment – but may also focus on change in the social and legislative environments. www.newcastle.edu.au

The discipline of Occupational Therapy • The occupation itself places particular demands upon the person. • Thus Occupational Therapists are trained to understand these demands and to either adjust the occupation in some way or up skill the person to be able to perform the task or adjust the environment to enable this performance. www.newcastle.edu.au

  12. The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy • The intake per year is around 80 and the UAI varies but is usually around 84 – 87. www.newcastle.edu.au
