BACKGROUND The International Cooperation in the Teacher Training Programme, PPU 1998 Discussions with UU in The Netherlands (similar Teacher Education Standards) First exchange with UU in 1999 – 2 in and 2 out 2002 Discussions with PSU (Murray Nelson and Haege Hestnes) First exchange with PSU in 2003 – 2 in and 2 out 2004 Delegation from PLU to Seattle to discuss an exchange First exchange with UW in 2006 – 2 in and 3 out Since the start in 1999 and until today 163 students have joined in the exchange programme

  8. How are PLU students selected? Application form and information, internet: http://www.ntnu.no/plu/praksis/internasjonal_studentutveksling All apply before Sept 1, to be able to leave the following spring Interviews, check: motivation, economy and English language skills Selection of 12 out of 20-25 applicants, what subjects might the receiving universities place in their schools? Meeting at NTNUs International section: information and filling in forms for students to the US. PLU pays for visa and travel to Oslo for visa interview.

  10. Student’s Responses Norwegian students abroad are very pleased with the challenges they get abroad. They present their experiences to PLU at the FoU-conference every spring in May (this year May 15 and 16) – Welcome to Dragvoll! What do incoming students at NTNU think about the programme? This years student from Penn State University Miss Courtney Ann Breen teaches history /social science at Charlottenlund Middle School

  11. Development and Content - I Students abroadteach full time for 3 months in a school – 250 lessons • One or twosubjects • Supervised from theuniversityabroadonce a week • Debriefingonceevery 2 weeks at campus • Dinnerswithuniversity staff

Development and Content - II Students in Trondheim teach part time for 2-3 months – 100 lessons • One subject, severalclasses • Supervised from NTNU onelesson and from national mentors a wholedayeach • Debriefing at campus everyThursdayafternoon / dinners • Excursionsboth in Trondheim (Cathedral) and regional (Røros etc) • Student assistant (since 2008) – providebedlinen/duvetskitchenware

  13. Further Development - I PLU plans to send and receive students to/from more universities University of London, Goldsmiths spring 2013 Spain? PompeuFabra?, Barcelona spring 2014? France? Germany? Elsewhere in the world?

Further Development - II More cooperation for staff, so far… Staff has cooperated with UU in the EU-project APL Staff has done research at UW and PSU, Rita Riksaasen (ped) Staff has visited UW, Kjersti Wæge, Bård Knutsen (math/bio) Staff has visited our students in UU, PSU and UW (up to 2008) Both PLU-staff and school’s professional mentors Staff will visit UU this March, Bård Knutsen (bio)
