  3. Monday Oct. 10 • Goal: You can explain the definitions of the vocabulary • DQ: What is an episiotomy? • Plan: • Finish videos from unit 2 • Introduce unit 3! • Vocab as a class: index cards • Book work tomorrow • Debrief: class vocab quiz

Tuesday Oct. 11 • Goal: Class can explain each vocab word clearly • DQ: Pick 1 vocab word that you think represents this unit the best and explain why • Plan: preschool t-shirt! • Collect any more missing work • Vocab check: class: stand up till you get one right • Book work till end of period • Due Thursday! • Debrief: quiz! Stand up till you answer a vocab work correctly.

Wednesday Oct. 12 • Goal: identify your portfolio format for unit 3 preschool • DQ:Identify 3 ways to encourage children’s interest in learning (434-437) • Plan: 10$ for a white t-shirt thurs oct. 27th • Introduce portfolio and preschool clearer • Multiple intelligences 428-429 • Debrief: Describe to your neighbor what your main intelligence is in and why this will be helpful to know. Would you make a good team? Why or why not?

  6. 3 ways to encourage children’s interest in learning (434-437) • Give them experiences in everyday life • Ask them open ended questions • “how did you do that?” and “what are you going to do next?” • Develop an interest in reading (phonome & alliteration) (check out our books!) • Creating artwork • Composing music • Foster a sense of accomplishment • Use age appropriate language while introducing new vocabulary • Be patient and listen

  8. Thursday Oct. 13: no school Friday • Goal: You can explain how to encourage moral development and why it is important. • DQ: What is moral development and WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? What would happen if we didn’t develop children’s morals? • Plan: • Collect bookwork and vocab! • Identify 7 guidelines for encouraging moral development in children pg 416-417 • Debrief: Develop a scenario to address one if the steps from today

Monday Oct. 17 • Goal: you can explain how to build children’s self confidence and explain social skills children must have as they start school • DQ: Identify 3 things you can do to help build your self confidence. • Plan: PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES • Describe 3 ways to help children develop self confidence pg 411 • List 3 social skills children must learn as they begin school pg 414-415 and why they are important • Debrief: Explain problems that can occur if a child starts school without social skills.

  10. Tuesday Oct. 18 • Goal: You can clearly explain how to encourage conflict resolution and cooperation with children. • DQ: How did you learn to manage conflict? Does it work well for you or not. Why? Who do you know that handles conflict well? What do they do? • Plan: extra credit tonight! • Describe 3 ways to encourage conflict resolution & cooperation in children pg 419 • Work time • Debrief: Role Play: see next slide

  12. Wednesday Oct. 19th ER • Goal: you can explain what norms are, the importance of them and what your group norms are • DQ: what is a “norm”? If you don’t know take a guess! • Plan: PKT DUE WEDNESDAY NOV. 30th • Shape sorters into groups: 5 groups • “Norms”: what are they? • Group norms: individual 10: • Combine with group: Discuss & Rank • Write out neatly on a piece of paper: add your names. • See next slide Debrief: Why is it important to have group norms? What would happen if there wasn’t group norms?

  15. factors to consider when planning activities for preschoolers • Areas of development: • thinking & problem solving • Movement of small and large muscles • Creativity, (music, dance, art and dramatic play) • Relationships with others • Age level appropriate • Safety • Make sure children are involved • Transitions • Materials needed • Individual backgrounds (religious beliefs etc.) • Procedures: 3 column plan: you/ preschoolers/ high schoolers • Evaluation afterwards: good/ changes needed?

Friday Oct. 21 • Goal: you can explain the skills children will develop in your learning center and identify the benefits of learning centers. • DQ:Describe the benefits of having learning centers 614. answers next slide. Add to portfolio • Plan: • finish centers • present to class centers • Debrief: Evaluate team: how did you do? What could you improve on?

  17. Benefits of learning centers • Allow children to make choices (develop independence and initiative) • Explore different areas of knowledge (good for multiple intelligence development) • Develop skills thru hands on experiences (small and large motor skills)

Center based? • Head start? • How do they inform you of your child’s day? • How long have the staff been there? • How many children does the provider care for? • Is there a back up plan for illnesses or vacations? • Who else will be there? • Are there both quiet and active times for kids? • What if there is an emergency? • Are they first aid/ cpr certified? • How do they check in/ check out? Safe? • Do they seem to like kids?’ • Is it clean, bright, organized? • Food nutritious? • Is there a place for my childs belongings? • Policites in writing? • Is there a schedule/ free play/ circle time etc? • Are the kids here happy?

Promoting Positive Behavior • Set classroom expectations in positive terms • Use positive reinforcement (acknowledge good behavior) • Be a good role model • Deal with misbehavior consistently and immediately: remind 1st, 2nd time give a choice, 3rd time: move to a different activity, (time-in instead of time-out)
