  2. Did you know….? For the 2005-06 academic year, Education students put in 271,000 hours in area classrooms. ENGAGEMENT

  3. Did you know…? MSUM’s Old Fashioned 4th of July, which was started in 1973 as a lead-in event for the U.S. Bicentennial, attracts 20,000 people of all ages annually.

Our Procedures • Have met twice per month this academic year • Brainstormed and looked at existing data/information • Teams worked through each core component • Drafted a chapter • Currently fleshing out & revising chapter & gathering additional data • Will be surveying students, faculty, and staff

  10. Criteria 5 Engagement and Service: As called for by its mission, MSUM identifies its constituencies and serves them in ways both value.

  11. Core Component 5a MSUM learns from the constituencies it serves and analyzes its capacity to serve their needs and expectations .

  12. 5a evidence Examples of evidence include: • Environmental scanning: • Advisory Boards • Student Senate serves as an advisory group to the administration for the students • Community-based Boards & Organizations

  39. 5d evidence • Service programs and student, faculty and staff volunteer activities are well-received by the communities served. • Evidence that those served value the university’s services and volunteer activities is shown through: • Participation at local events such as 4th of July celebration • Hendrix Health Center – Health Fair • Celebration of Nations • Many many more activities well-attended and received by community.

  40. 5d evidence – service well-received • MSUM students provide many services to the community that are highly valued, including: • Volunteer Visions, a student volunteer program • Halloween Celebration for community children in the residence halls • Habitat for Humanity • Departments and student organizations need to be surveyed to determine what student volunteer activities are taking place, participation rate, value, etc. Also… Upcoming Student & Faculty/Staff Surveys

  41. 5d – service well-received • Faculty and staff serve the community through participation in local volunteer boards, music and theatre activities, fundraising (United Way, Combined Charities, etc.) • Services for the community and alumni include: • Annual Fourth of July celebration • Annual Christmas party at Nemzek for area children • Alumni are served through reunions, Alumnews (alumni newspaper), Alumni on-line community, toll-free phone information service, invitations to events on campus, travel opportunities, continuing education, & distance learning.

  42. 5d evidence • The organization’s economic and workforce development activities are sought after and valued by civic and business leaders. • West Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center, which serves nine counties, is located on our campus. • Career Services – student interns well sought-after. • Customized training

  43. 5d evidence • Organization’s facilities are available to and used by the community • Every year, thousands of Moorhead area residents attend campus sponsored theater productions, musical performances, lectures, art exhibitions, athletic contests, literary readings, silent movie showings, planetarium shows, nature walks, much more….. • MSUM’s Old Fashioned 4th of July, which was started in 1973 as a lead-in event for the U.S. Bicentennial, attracts 20,000 people of all ages.

  44. 5d evidence - facilities • The American Cancer Society utilizes the campus mall each summer for the Clay County Relay for Life. • Area elementary schools bring students to the campus for the Children’s Theater Productions, classes at the Regional Science Center, and for Science Fairs.

  46. 5d evidence • MSUM provides programs to meet continuing education for licensed professionals. • MSUM offers numerous continuing education opportunities for licensed professionals, especially in the education, health care, public and human service fields. • Continuing Studies -- Saturday, evening classes, non-credit workshops, distance education, College for Kids, customized training • Alternate delivery – online, hybrid, ITV, self-paced courses
