Allusion: The Rosenbergs • Julian and Ethel Rosenberg were a married couple, convicted of espionage (providing secret information to a foreign, enemy country) against the United States in July 1950. • They were sentenced to death on April 5th, 1951. • The Rosenbergs execution came at the height of the Cold War.

  4. Who is the narrator (the person telling the story)? • What are some of the characteristics of the narrator? How would you describe him or her? • What have we yet to find out her real name? What is the fake name she gives on page (p.11)?

  5. Metaphor • “I felt very still and very empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo” (p.3).With a partner, write down what you think it means to feel like “the eye of a tornado.”
