  2. Our Mobility to CERN 2006 AND 2007 2006 2007 HELEN Fellowships: Two trips of Marcello Maggi to Colombia: 1) May 2007 – To help setup CMSSW 2) October 2007 – To help setup a GRID node at UNIANDES. CMS COLCIENCIAS Carlos Avila

  4. UNIANDES ACTIVITIES IN CMS 2008 • Continued RPC commissioning with 2 graduate students. More than 100 shifts/student of RPC offline DQM performed by our students in 2008. • Contributed to RPC software with a 6 months stay of one professor and the involvement of a postdoc from our group. • Participated in Data operations group with one Engineer. • Stays of 6 months of two engineers to work in preshower detector • Defined thesis topics for our 2 PhD students: • - Search for Heavy Stable Charged Particles using the RPC system of CMS • - Search for squarks and gluinos in events with muons, jets and missing ET • 5. Signed MOU between COLCIENCIAS and CMS • 6. TIER 3 node at UNIANDES up and running. • 7. Contributed with 25 man-months of service tasks in 2008. Carlos Avila

  6. PLANS FOR 2009 • The two students and the postdoc will remain all 2009 at CERN. Students will slowly move from commissioning activities and will concentrate in SUSY and Exotics physics analysis groups. • Plan to have three engineers in data operations group the whole 2009 • Trip of Marcello Maggi and Giuseppe Iaselli to Bogota in April 2009 ISSUES TO FACE IN 2009 HELEN Program ends by end of April 2009. Need to find other sources to support the stay of our students. We have money to keep our students for the rest of 2009 but need to figure out the way to finance their stays in 2010. Also we expect to bring new students in 2010 but that depends on financial support. Carlos Avila

UNIANDES – CERN UNIANDES Group: 3 profesors , 1 postdoc, 2 PhD students , 3 engineers, 2 MsC Students 1 MSc student with a 3 monts stay at CERN MEDIPIX 3 UNIANDES joined this collaboration in septemeber 2008 CMS EXPERIMENT Uniandes is a collborator since March 2006 Setup an instrumentation lab in UNIANDES MICROELECTRONICS CENTER CMUA PHYSICS DOCTORATE PROGRAM GRID COMPUTATION EXTENSION COLABORATION WITH UNIVERSIDAD DE NARIÑO- PASTO: 3 undergraduate (Lina Huertas, Dexy Villa, Diego Gómez) 2 Engineers in Bogota from UNIANDES DTI. (Daniel Burbano, Michael Pérez) 2 Engineers with 18 month stays at CERN (Marcelo Baquero, Diego Reyes) 2 MSc Engineering students with 6 months stays at CERN (Juan Rodríguez, Sebastián Bonilla) • 2 PhD students with 2 years stays at CERN (Alberto Ocampo, Camilo Carrillo) • 1 Postdoc: 1 year stay at CERN (Andrés Osorio) • 2 MSc students: (Diego Roa, Andrés Cabrera) CONFERENCES:- Congreso Nal de Física, Ibagué 2007: 2 talks –CMS week, CERN dic. 2008: 2 conferences; -Universidad de Barranquilla y Univalle. –VII Latinamerican symposium of Nuclear Physics, Peru 2007; - co-organizadores de escuela CERN-LA, Antioquia, Colombia, March 2009 - participation in 1st EELA2 conference, Bogota, Feb 2009. CONCLUSIONS • UNIANDES group is very active in CMS experiment • We have a TIER 3 running we need to optimize its use in the data analysis of our students. • We are interested in continuing our participation in the RPC project, we are looking for new students • We are looking forward for the start up of LH collisions to complete theses of Camilo and Alberto. • We are facing now a challenge to look for extra sources of finnancial support.
