  3. General • At this stage of development, children are making strides tin becoming self-competent and self-aware. • Peers and adults outside their families play and increasingly important role in their lives. Their circle of friends and acquaintances expand

  4. PHYSICAL DECELPMENTL • Development of the body is not rapid during this times. • Children are much more interested in their personal growth. They care more about what other people think of them • self esteem-

  5. Body Height HEALTH CONCERNS: This is one of the healthiest times in your life. Several chronic illnesses may development during this time ulcers, asthma, and diabetes. Obesity is characterized by excessive bodily fat. A person is considered obese is he or she weighs 20 percent more than other people of the same sex, age and build. • Boys and usually taller than girls. • Girls begin to grow more rapidly than boys after the age of 10. • In boys the “growth spurt” occurs at ages 11 and 12 for boys. • By the end of age 12 girls have grown to about 90 percent of their ehight while boys have only grown 80% percent of the total height.

  6. Mental Operations • An operation is defined at the manipulation of ideas based on logic rather than perception. Between seven and eight years of age, children enter the stage of concentrated operations. This means they use logic, but it is not based on what they have experienced or seen. • Seriating is the ability to arrange items in an increasing or decreasing order based on weight, volume, or size. • Classification is the ability to group objects by common attributes, such as size color, shape, pattern or function.

  7. SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT • School aged children are growing in self-understanding. Their self-concept is forming. Choice these children are spending more time away from family. • SELF CONCEPT; • These children begin to make social comparisons: social comparison is a process where people define themselves in term of qualitites, skills, and attributes they see in others.

  8. SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT • SELF-ESTEEM • Self-esteem is the belief that you are worthwhile as a person.
