  1. DPIAP had an Open house and New Year celebration ceremony on Saturday 28 Jan, 2012 at DPIAP’s office. The ceremony aimed to strengthen collaboration and to recognize DPIAP’s stakeholders and great support network. There were leisure activities, music, live performances, games, booth exhibitions, Persons with Disabilities products for display and sale and food & beverages. Disabled Peoples’ International Asia Pacific Open House and Happy New Year ceremony 2012 Saturday 28 January 2012 DPIAP’s office The ceremony began with a welcome speech by Ms Saowalak Thongkuaywho explained the purpose of the Open House in 2012. Ms. Saowalak also spoke about the successful achievements and activities of DPIAP from the previous year, as well as the progress of DPIAP’S new and ongoing work. In addition, she gave some insight on the direction, future plan, vision and goals of DPIAP including some mention on the social enterprise that involves cooperation with DPIAP’s supporters and stakeholders. Then Mr. Kraisak Choonhawan, Chief Advisor to The Governor of Bangkok, gave a short speech and blessing, and wished all attendees an enjoyable day. Following the opening speeches, the participants went on to enjoy the various events and activities, and also to network and build on new and existing friendships.

  2. Conversation Stage On Key to Management At11.30 am four Honorable invited speakers came to share their experiences in disability related work. 1. Mrs. Jamnan Siritan (President of Radio Television Broadcasting Professional Federation) She spoke on the themes of empowerment and strengthening the capacity of Persons with Disabilities to work together, thus ensuring the quality of life of staff (health, salary, safety and future). 2. Mr. Mike Plaxton (CEO of Krungthai AXA Life) He spoke about Krungthai AXA’s initiative to actively recruit Persons with Disabilities for roles which stemmed from the capability of PWDs for existing positions, and not the creation of special or new positions for Persons with Disabilities. 3. Mr. Christophe Lejeune (Director of Human resources, Accor Thailand, Cambodia, Laos) spoke on the key to management being people. He focused on the importance of creating a fulfilling work environment for staff being key to good performance, and also to listen to staff problems and challenges. He further advised that he tried to make staff see that much of the solution should not come from his advice, but that the solution to the problem should come from themselves. 4. Mrs. Chalida Tajaroensuk (Director of People’s Empowerment) spoke on the importance of Persons with Disabilities in having confidence to speak and present themselves. She emphasized that to push forward the movement of PWDs issues, cooperation from different areas is needed.

  3. Disabled Peoples’ International Asia Pacific Open House and Happy New Year ceremony 2012 The ceremony concluded at 13.00 in the afternoon. The Open House provided an opportunity for all attendees to enjoy the games and activities, network, make new friends and learn more about the movement of PWDs. At the same time, the ceremony was a good opportunity for PWDs, Disabled Peoples’ Organizations, the business sector and people in society to showcase their various skills and products and learn about disability in the perspective of the Social Model Concept. It showed that all can work together on the same goals which include full participation and equal opportunity for Persons with Disabilities in society. The Open House was aimed at recognizing and thanking DPIAP’s network, partners, supporters and friendsand the positive role they play in our continued efforts for equality for Persons with Disabilities in our region.
