  1. Conjunctions A conjunction joins words or groups of words.

  2. There are three kinds • of conjunctions: • coordinatingconjunctions • correlativeconjunctions • subordinatingconjunctions.

  3. Coordinating conjunctions may join: • single words • groups of words • They always connect items of the same kind.

  4. Examples: • baseball and tennis (two nouns) • at home or in the library (two prepositional phrases) • Kate has arrived, but she was late. (two complete ideas or simple sentences)

  5. FANBOYS: Write a sentence for each of the conjunctions below. F - for A - and N - nor B - but O - or Y - yet S - so

  6. I had better get organized, for Thanksgiving is just around the corner.
