  2. FOREWORD • Welcome to Mrs. Carson’s Keyboarding class. • I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially. • Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.

  3. Am I in the Right Place?Where do I sit?How should I behave? • Everyone has an assigned seat. The seating chart is located on the cabinet by the door. • Expectations and consequences are displayed on the wall. Let’s go over them briefly. We will adhere to these expectations.

  7. How Will I Be Graded • I will follow the grading scale and grading criteria given by the district which we will discuss in detail later on in class. Have students read poster. • Assessment Tools: Rubrics, Checklists, & Percentage of Correct Responses • Assessment Activities: Projects, Group Work, Individual Work, Online Collaborative Work

Who Am I • Mother of two girls • Wife • Teacher • Writer • Entrepreneur • Friend • Sister • Daughter • I love teaching and helping people succeed because when they succeed, I feel good about myself. Feeling good about one self makes you happy and you feel a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of joy.

  9. Will My Teacher Treat Me Fairly? I am here to help you. I have set up my class for success. It is up to you to obtain success. I will hold everyone to the same expectations and if expectations are broken, you will know what the consequences are for your actions. You will be given a chance to learn from your mistakes before parental contact is made and a referral is sent to the office.

  10. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? • A procedure is the way that we do things. • To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: • To bake a cake you need to preheat the oven at the right temperature, have the right ingredients, mix it, grease the pan, pour in the batter, and take the cake out at the right time as indicated by directions on box. • To make a phone call, you need to enter the number in the right order. • So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

  11. ENTRANCE • Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class (Class Folder, Pencil, Jump Drive, a Willingness to Work and a Positive Attitude). • Enter the classroom quietly. • Go directly to your assigned seat. • Get ready for your work.

  12. RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS • Do the DO NOW on the back board. • Do the DO NOW on a full sheet of paper. Write your name, date, and period at the left margin of your paper. Write nice and neat. • When you finish, read over your work to make sure it makes sense and is free of spelling, capitalization errors, and punctuation. If you have time have your elbow (the person to your left or right) person check your work.

  13. Review & Practice Procedures(Slides 10, 11, and 12) • Go over directions for the DO NOW. --Handouts will be on the chair in front of the brown cabinet by the door. Pick one up as you enter class. • What are the procedures for entering class? • What should you do after you the bell rings? • Let’s practice this procedures now! • Students will exit class. Students will re-enter class following the procedures we discussed in class.

  14. Do Now Sharing Time • Use name cards to call upon students so they can share their work. Please be ready to share. This is your first class participation grade. You will not be graded for correct of incorrect responses (answers), but you will be graded for the percent of work you completed.

  15. Procedures for Collecting Work • Computers 1- 7 will pass papers down to computer number 7. Computers 8-12 will pass their papers to computer 10. • Computers 13-16 will pass their papers to computer 14. • Computers 17-19 will pass their paper to computer 19. • Computers 20-23 will pass their papers to computer number 22. • The person at computer number 7 must make sure they get a paper from each student.– 7 students, papers. If not, let Mrs. Carson know.

  16. DURING INSTRUCTION • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. You need to focus on skill being taught because you will be asked to show that you understand what is being taught. • Don’t write anything during instruction. You will be given time for taking notes. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  17. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING • Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. • If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. • If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. • Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. • Respect each other and be friendly. • Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

  18. UTILIZING YOUR CLASS SUPPLIES • CLASS FOLDER – Please bring a folder with pockets and prongs to FILE class notes, graded papers, class logs, incomplete assignments, make-up assignments, and projects in progress.--Pass out and fill out class log • PENCILS – Please only write with pencils in class. • JUMP DRIVE • A WILLINGNESS TO WORK • A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

  19. IF THE TEACHER RAISES HER HAND • Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. • Face the teacher and wait silently. • Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. • No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

  20. AFTER YOU ARE DONE • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. • Complete incomplete assignments in your folder. Do any make-up work as indicated by teacher and class assignment log. Go to the online library on your desktop to select a book to read. You will be required to complete. Pass out Story Map.

  21. DISMISSAL • Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. • Wait for Mrs. Carson to dismiss you. The ringing of the bell does not dismiss you. • After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. • If it is the last period of the day, log off and shut down computers. Thank You.

  22. HOMEWORK PROCEDURE • You will be given homework. It will due at the next class meeting. • Sample Heading: NAME DATE PERIOD NAME OF HOMEWORK

  23. WHEN YOU ARE TARDY • Stand by Mrs. Carson’s desk. • Inform her of your excuse or give her your tardy pass and sign the tardy log. • Go to your seat after you are given permission to do so. • You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home.

  24. WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT • Get the assignments from your classmates and the handout from Mrs. Carson. Do the work at home. • If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Mrs. Carson and arrange a time to make up the test after school. • You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “50” for those assignments. Example: cutting class, skipping school.

  25. REVIEW then PRACTICE • During Instruction – Give directions for expectation activity • While You Are Working • Utilizing Class Supplies • If Teacher Raises Hand • After You Are Done • Dismissal • Homework – Define and illustrate word wall word. Assign each student a word to define and illustrate. The best work will be displayed under the word wall word. Give students ½ of typing paper. Example: respect – illustration – a male opening the door for a female. • Absence • Tardies Slides 7-15--Note read words that are typed in burgundy. If not typed in burgundy, paraphrase data. Select participants using cards. LET’S PRACTICE THE ABOVE

  26. Assignment Imagine a world without laws. (Hint: Laws are equivalent to expectations in the classroom.) What does the world look like in your imagination? Answer this question in paragraph form. Indent the first line of your paragraph. Write at least five sentences. Be prepared to share your writing.

Write the OCSD5 Expectation by the Class Expectation that has the same meaning. Let’s do the first one together.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS School-wide classroom rules are posted on the wall: • Listen and follow directions the first time. • Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. • Keep hands, feet, objects and negative comments to yourself. • Have your supplies and be on time. • Complete and submit all assignments on time with excellence.

  30. Expectation Activity Read the OCSD5 Expectations. Write the OCSD5 Expectations in the row that summarizes the expectation. Let’s do the first one together. Class Expectations OCSD5 Expectations

CONSEQUENCES • Warning (reteach the behavioral expectations) • Individual Conference with Student (Decrease Conduct Grade to Satisfactory) Rule Reflection Corner (Student explains in writing which rule(s) was broken and how they will change their behavior. Decrease conduct grade to Needs Improvement. Call Parent (Decrease conduct grade to Unsatisfactory.
