Parent/Teacher Communication • Student Planners: Parents should read and sign the yellow box of their student’s homework planner daily. • Parents can contact their student’s teacher by: • Writing notes in the student planner or sending notes in the homework folder. • E-mailing. • Calling and/or leaving a message on the teacher’s voicemail. • Scheduling a conference.

  3. Homework • Each student is provided with a daily homework planner. All homework and weekly spelling words are recorded in the homework planner. • Homework assignments usually consist of a reading, spelling, and/or math activity. All homework assignments reinforce class lessons or review second grade skills. • Spelling/Vocabulary lists and 19 Ways to Study Spelling

  5. Parent Conferences • Expect conferences to be scheduled at the end of the first nine-weeks and third nine-weeks as needed.

  11. Decodable Books • The Imagine It! Reading Decodable Books allow the students to apply their knowledge of phonic elements to read simple, engaging texts. Each story supports instruction in a new phonic element and incorporates elements and words that have been learned earlier.

  12. Interpreting Oral Fluency • Compare the student’s number of correct words per minute with the following chart. This will give you an idea of how your student compares with other students in the same grade at the same time of year. The data in the chart represents the approximate fluency rate a student should attain periodically in second grade.
