Background on PSEF • PSE established at Miami in 1957 • PSE Foundation established in 1960 • Notable highlights • Over 1300 graduates from the program • Vast majority still in the pulp and paper industry • Separate Alumni Council augments PSEF efforts • Close cooperation with MU Development • PSEF Structure • Board of Trustees: 21 members, 3 classes of 7 each • Committees: 10 standing committees

Program • Limited Endowment Income • Managing scholarship program to fit within endowment income budget • Undertaking steps to add $1.5 million to endowment • Engaging Alumni • Meet with every graduating senior • Regular communication with alums • Rebuilding current alumni database • Engaging alums on committees and energizing around scholarship endowments • Anchoring the mission in the hearts of the alums, reaching out to top scholarship awardees, frequent communications from PSEF office • Strengths and Opportunities • PSE Faculty and corporate connectivity • Increased alumni and corporate support (financial and engagement)

  4. Employment • Study of PSE Graduates from 2006-11: • 3 are in graduate school • 23 work within the paper industry • 5 in Sales & Marketing positions • 13 as Manufacturing Engineers • 3 as Environmental Engineers • 2 as Research & Development Engineers • 6 are employed in other industries

Future • Our Crystal Ball • Concern over shrinking production base in US paper industry • Continued high demand for PSE engineers to enter the industry, not restricted to just ChE • Restricted discretionary spending, more scrutiny regarding PSEF corporate member and individual member fees • Institutional Challenges • The landscape of higher education is shifting dramatically in terms of student demographics, technology, public accountability, degree valuation, global competition, and the rising costs of tuition and student debt. • Miami’s Response • Miami is executing an innovative plan to achieve its vision to offer "the best undergraduate experience in the nation, enhanced by superior, select graduate programs.“ • Out of the Box • Ad hoc marketing group to achieve new strategic initiatives • Charged alumni with meeting committee goals • Hold committee chairs accountable using bi-monthly conference calls • Engaged MU Development office to enhance fundraising capacity • Launched increased online social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) • Rebuilding web site for launch in late October
