  • Facilitate the communication regarding the NJ CC Gen Ed among and on the CC campuses

  • Act as a repository of Gen Ed best practices (particularly in assessment), policies, and procedures

  • Promote faculty development in support of the understanding and application of Gen Ed policies

  • Identify and report on changes in the Gen Ed landscape

  • Establish procedures for and conduct the Gen Ed Course Review

  • Faculty and administrative representatives from all 19 community colleges (2 per college)

  • Met 10 times from October 2007-February 2009

    • At times when GECC was not convened (Summer 2008-Spring 2010), an AOA subcommittee on Gen Ed met to review Gen Ed courses

  • Gen Ed Course Review

    • Initial Review (Fall 2007, early Spring 2008):

      • 3 GECC subgroups reviewed course descriptions:

      • Affirmed courses that all group members agreed fit the Gen Ed criteria

      • Postponed affirmation of courses where additional information was needed

    • Detailed Review (Spring 2008, Spring 2009)

      • Subgroups reviewed course outlines
