  3. Ambulance Operations • Started in March,1975 • 18 fixed stations • 19 ambulances • 2 ALS Responder units • 476 square miles • 25,000 average per year

Demographics • 134 Full time employees • Support Staff – Staffed by EMT-B’s • Office Staff – All CPR Certified • 3 Division Chiefs • 6 Battalion Chiefs of Operations • 3 Battalion Chiefs of Training • 9 Captains • 34 Lieutenants • Remainder paramedics, Executive Officers, and Education Division

  5. Med-Act • Typical life of a paramedic • Most places paramedics stay 5 years • At Med-Act – we are a career department • Crews in the field work a scheduled shift • 24 hrs at a time • Work 10 days per month

  7. Fire Departments Med-Act responds with 13 different fire departments These city and county departments are staffed with first responders, EMT, EMT-I or paramedic level personnel

What do we really do? • Respond to 400/25,000 calls per year…ranging from major trauma to minor medical • Care for ill patients, injured subjects…and those “other” reasons people call 9-1-1 • Additional professional responsibilities • Education updates • Station Duties • Expectations/Challenges…7 job factors

  13. Ride Along • Med-Act encourages perspective applicants to visit the area and Ride Along with an EMS crew and/or a Battalion Chief • We will chaperone the applicant while they learn first hand from the field crews.
