  2. What is a WebQuest? A lesson format in which the information that learners work with comes from the web. Sequenced steps and pre-selected websites guide students through the lesson.

  3. Who Invented WebQuests? The WebQuest model has been around since 1995 when Bernie Dodge developed it for use in a course at San Diego State University.

  4. Goals To create lessons that make good use of the web Get learners to apply higher level thinking skills Use everyone's time well

  5. Key Features • Engaging task using the Internet. • Challenges students to solve a problem. • Students work in groups. • Answers are discovered and created. • Teachers facilitate not teach.

  6. WebQuests areNOT: • Internet “scavenger hunts”. • Only for gifted kids. • Simply answering questions and reciting information. • A single answer “solution” to solve the problem.

  7. DESIGN:Includes 6 Components- • Introduction • Task • Process • Evaluation • Conclusion • Credits • Teacher Page (Optional)

  8. WebQuest Components : • Introduction- Short paragraph to capture interest and to introduce the activity or lesson. • Task- Describes clearly what the end result will be. • Process- Describes the steps the learners go through to accomplish the task. Includes any resources.

  9. WebQuest Components : • Evaluation- Measures the results of the activity. Rubrics are good evaluators. • Conclusion- Summarize and reflect what was accomplished or learned. • Credits- List the sources of any images, music or text that you're using. • Teacher Page (Optional)- Permission to share with others and success hints

  12. Remember… • Don’t reinvent the wheel! Modify an existing WebQuest if possible. • Make sure the students must dig for answers through pre-approved links. • Include both group and individual work. • Facilitate…don’t teach!
