  1. EHT I NTERNATIONAL iMCC Intelligent Motorized Control Cabinet Innovative control for disconnect switches iCOD Control

  2. EHT Main Substation Components I NTERNATIONAL

  3. EHT What is iMCC? I NTERNATIONAL Controls: • Complete operation of the Disconnect Monitors: • All components of the Disconnect Alarms: • Warns of incipient faults Mechanically conforms: • Can be used with ALL disconnect designs iCOD Control Replaces conventional controllers with the Smart Grid in mind

  4. EHT Control I NTERNATIONAL • Intelligent operation of Disconnects • Real time status of switch operation • Real time status of arm location duringoperation • Optimal contact pressure • Full motor control allowing variable speed to reduce arc time • Interphase synchronization • Multi-trial mode

  5. EHT Monitor I NTERNATIONAL • Operation completion (Opening and Closing) • Arm position via optical positioning system • Disconnect position failure • Motor voltage, current and torque • Temperature and Humidity measurements • SCADA connectivity

  6. EHT Alarm I NTERNATIONAL • Alarms are recorded in a non-volatile memory and transmitted via the communication port or by the dry contact relays. • An LED will illuminate locally and the alarm code will be displayed on the iCOD panel if an alarm is present. • Alarm levels: • Level I : Maintenance required in the medium term • Level II : Immediate maintenance is required the disconnect is not functional.

  7. EHT Mechanical I NTERNATIONAL • Designed for 50 years operational use with little or no maintenance. • Will work with any disconnect design. • Over rated motor and gears for years of trouble free use.

  8. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Operation and Diagnosis The controller knows the position of the arm at all times. It can detect a break or blockage of live parts or gears. Cams are NOT used to determine arm position, a combination of torque and position is used to determine the actual position of the arm throughout entire operation. Arm wedged in corona ring Arm fallen outside of corona ring The optical positioning system has a precision of 1/5 of a degree, thus providing great flexibility for data analysis by function of the position.

  9. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Elimination of Auxiliary Cam Switches The optical positioning system, OPS, provides an accuracy in the DS arm position measurement that is impossible with traditional methods. Positions are now assigned within the software. Once the positions are established the configuration file can be copied to other iCODsoperating DS of the same design.

  10. EHT Elimination of Auxiliary Cam Switches I NTERNATIONAL

  11. EHT I NTERNATIONAL De-Icing During icing conditions the disconnect will attempt three time to break the ice. A built in delay allows time for the operator to get out of the way.

  12. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Arc Reduction Increased lifespan of disconnect switches and adjacent equipment due to reduced arcing time (50% or more) Reduced harmonics injected into equipment and grid.

  13. EHT DSV : Avantages of variable speed control I NTERNATIONAL • A strategic solution for control and monitoring • Reduction of harmonics by 50% or more per manoeuvres . • Reduction of exposure of harmonics to transformers . • Reduction of exposure to arcs on contact fingers therefore reduced pitting of contacts. • Increased contact pressure on pantograph and semi pantograph designs. • Minimized motor stress due to fluid motor acceleration and deceleration. • An active system for the measurement and control of motor current, cycle by cycle, for optimal motor protection. Motor will never burn out as current is constantly being measured thus preventing overcurrent conditions.

  14. EHT DSV : Avantages of variable speed control I NTERNATIONAL • Direct link between arc time and energy dissipated • Reduced arc time, reduced harmonics dissipated.

  15. EHT Maintenance Free Design I NTERNATIONAL • Solid state design, no moving cams or micro switches. • No degradation due to poor contacts from oxidation. • Elevated resistance to vibration. • Motor current monitoring to increase motor life and other components. • Very low control operating current versus the activation of a relay coil.

  16. EHT Maintenance Free Design I NTERNATIONAL • Control panel membrane prevents dust and pollution from affecting the contacts. • Military grade robust, proven and isolated. • Contact switch life more than one million operations.

  17. EHT Maintenance Free Design I NTERNATIONAL Front panel and terminals – zero maintenance. Connections for SCADA easily accessible. No Cams to become lose over time Configuration file can be copied to other iCODs

  18. EHT Optional Maintenance Free Design - Terminals I NTERNATIONAL • Vibration tests conducted IEC60068-2-6 at a frequency of 2000Hz with an acceleration of 20G. Specially designed for the railways. • Excellent contact over life of equipment tightening not required. • Used at many utilities including Hydro One and Hydro Quebec.

  19. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Standards and Approvals • Testing conclusions by Hydro-Québec • Reliability observed for the duration of the tests. • Decrease adverse effects caused by the operation of the disconnect. • Immunity to EMI / RFI • Testing in the laboratories of EHT • 10 000 operations over a period of one month • 1000 maneuvers continuously • Operations at high temperature • Continuous operation at 70 ° C Testing Standard IEC 62271-102 All specifications of the standard have been successfully completed; Compliant with purchasing and HQ SN62.1008 SN.19.3 Hydro Quebec Homologation In Progress All PCBs are treated with a conformal coating

  20. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Tests with Hydro Quebec

  21. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Reduced Losses • With an accuracy (0.1%) of the positioning system for the power contacts results in a significant reduction in losses through the bad positioning of primary contacts. • Environmental control system (control of heat and humidity) optimized with 20% to 30% energy saving.

  22. EHT Software Interface I NTERNATIONAL Operation graph Monitoring panel Operation description Analysis panel

  23. EHT I NTERNATIONAL Field Installation iCOD Control Upgrading an existing HQ cabinet with…..

  24. EHT I NTERNATIONAL ICOD Intelligent Disconnect Controller • Real time monitor of the entire operation of the disconnect • No maintenance required – solid state design • Predictive maintenance tool • Multi-Trial mode • Ensures optimal contact pressure • Fully tested with Hydro Quebec
