  3. 2” x 2” x 25” Purpleheart Turning Blank

  4. Find the Center of Each End and Punch a Small Centering Hole

  5. Attach Drive Center to Handle End of Blank Using the Centering Hole

  6. Blank Mounted Between Centers with Toolrest in Position for Roughing

  7. Rough-Turn the Blank to a Cylinder Using a Roughing Gouge

  8. Blank Partially Roughed Out

  9. Roughed Out Cylinder with Story Stick and Registration Marks

  10. Turn the Shaft Slightly Over-Size. Sand to Final Diameter. Use Template to Verify Diameter

  11. Story-Stick Layout of Handle

  12. Initial Sizing and Clearance Cuts on Handle

  13. Turn Handle End Bead

  14. Handle Fully Developed and Ready For Sanding. Sand Entire Belaying Pin to 320 Grit

  15. Small Tenons Turned on Belaying Pin Ends. Use a Thin Hand Saw or Band Saw to Remove Excess Material

  16. Completed Belaying Pin

  17. Repeat Process “N” Times
