    2. Censorship… What does this term mean? The act or system of examining and appraising material, as literature, plays, or motion pictures, for the purpose of deleting or suppressing that which is considered objectionable by the government or organization

    7. Utopia/Dystopia Utopia: a place, state, or condition that is ideally perfect in respect of politics, laws, customs, and conditions. Dystopia: A futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or totalitarian control.

    8. Dystopia con’t. Most Dystopian works present a world in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through one or more of the following types of controls: Think of some dystopic movies you have seen. How are the societies in each movie controlled?

The Dystopian Protagonist often feels trapped and is struggling to escape. questions the existing social and political systems. believes or feels that something is terribly wrong with the society in which he or she lives. helps the audience recognize the negative aspects of the dystopian world through his or her perspective.

    11. Themes… Individual self-expression is important. Violence is self-destructive. Mindless pleasure-seeking and materialism make for an empty life. Humanity has the ability to be reborn and revived. In the WRONG hands, modern technology can be dangerous.

Theme-Define the theme and use quotations to support it.
