  2. The Iranian Jerboa (Allactaga firouzi) • Mouse-like/mini kangaroo like • Long tufted tail • Long back legs • Very large ears • Long tail • Appr. 90-263 mm.

  3. Habitat… • Flat Plains • Grasslands • Southern Iran • Burrow underground • Fairly hot climate

  4. Diet… • Vegetation: • Seeds • Plants • Occasionally crickets or mealworms • Obtain water from food • Forages food at night • preyed • upon by • owls • nocturnal • animals

  5. Mating and Reproducing… (little is known) • Pregnant up to 40 days • 1 to 3 litters born a year • mostly solitary animals • 6 year life span

  6. Distinct Qualities… • Extremely well jumper/ jumps in zigzag to confuse predator • Tail acts as a balancing organ • Long hairs on feet as friction pad for support • Fur is same color as dirt • Nocturnal • Get water from plants they eat

  7. Housing Requirements… • Semi-large cage • Dirt/ deep enough for burrows • House/shelter from light • Small rocks • Fresh plants/ mouse mix • Need special permit to own

  8. Critically Endangered… • Listed by IUCN Red List 2006 • Habitat loss • Restricted range • No conservation efforts • No recommendations SAVE ME!!!
