Instability • Political and economic instability as well a revolution rocked Latin countries for much of the 1900s • Mexico and Central America was a commercial and military crossroad for the Western hemisphere • It was a of strategic importance to the US particularly the Panama canal • As a result of this importance the history of these countries has included a series of interventions by the US • The nations of the Caribbean basin continue to seek peace and stability but these goals continue to elude them
