  1. Metals, Nonmetals and Metalloids

  2. Metals Physical Properties : • Shiny Luster • Malleable • Ductile • Conductivity • Magnetism

  3. Malleable A malleable material is one that can be pounded into shapes

  4. Ductile A ductile material is one that can be stretched into a thin wire.

  5. Conductivity A good conductor allows heat and electricity easily to pass through the material

  6. Magnetism Materials that are attracted to magnets and can be made into magnets are called magnetic.

  7. Nonmetals Physical Properties: • Dull Luster • Not conductors • Brittle- not malleable • Not ductile

  8. Metalloids Metalloids can have properties of both metals and nonmetals. Silicon is a metalloid. Silicon is brittle like a nonmetal but can conduct electricity like a metal. Silicon is found in computer chips, glass and sand.

  9. Malleability Ductile Conductivity Magnetism Brittle Cannot hammer into shapes because they will break. Transmits electricity and heat easily Can be stretched into a thin wire Can be attracted to a magnet Can be pounded into shapes CPS Quiz – Match the word with it’s description
