  2. Understand Your Space Intimate Space Personal Space • This space is reserved for close family and friends • Example: hugging your parents • This space is for normal conversations with teachers, family or friends • Example: arm’s length away

  3. Understand Your Space Social space Public space • This space is with new groups or acquaintances • Example: small groups in class, joining a new team or club • Larger setting usually with a lot of people • Example: giving a speech, going to the mall, or going to a football game

  5. Invasion!!! • Pay attention to the upcoming clips from Shrek • How was Shrek’s personal space invaded in these clips??

  6. Body Language • What is body language?? • Nonverbal communication: • Posture • Eye contact • Body movement • Tone of voice • Facial expressions • Did Shrek or Donkey display any body language?? • **Could Donkey have known from the body language that he was invading Shrek’s personal space?

  7. Guidelines to Follow! • Pay attention to clues: body language, nonverbal communication • Speak Up! • “I mean business” voice, tone, eye contact • Ask them to take a step back or to not touch you • Be assertive, NOT aggressive • Keep your hands to yourself  • **Note cards to keep in your tool kit
