  2. Biography • Thomas is a Nebraska Native, that is recognized world wide for his amazing nature photography. • In 1965, he began studying business at the University of Nebraska. Tom transferred to Doane College in Crete, Nebraska in 1967. • He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He continued postgraduate study in zoology and wildlife biology at the University of Nebraska and Colorado State University. • His work is displayed in many museums such as the Natural History Museum, in London, and the San Diego Natural History Museum. • Thomas is known for this wildlife nature photography, he enjoys going out in the wild, and taking picture of animals, or anything in nature that looks photo worthy. • Mangelsen’s love of nature, his life outdoors, and business success were influenced by his father. Harold Mangelsen took his sons to favorite blinds along the Platte River in Nebraska to look at the huge flocks of ducks, geese and cranes that migrate through the area. From these outings Mangelsen learned important lessons for photographing in the field, including patience, waiting for the right moment and understanding animal behavior.

  3. Polar play Manitoba, Canadayear: 2010 • The lighting used is natural light. I like the lighting in this picture because the rays of the sun light are really noticeable. The main subject of the photograph is to show the two bears playing around. The bears are in a rule of thirds. The photographer is trying to display the character of some polar bears, and how they act in their environment. I chose this photo over the others because I thought It was cute how the bears are playing, and it looks like they are dancing together.

  4. Sun catcherMichoacan, Mexicoyear: 2008 • The lighting in this picture is artificial light. The light is coming from the right front side of the butterfly. The main thing in this picture is the monarch butterfly. I chose this photo because I like how the butterfly is just glowing in the light, and how the background is blurred. The photographer is trying to communicate the migration of this butterfly.

  5. Eyes of the ForestKanha National Park, Indiayear:2008 • The lighting in this picture is natural light, coming from the day light and the sun. The main thing in this picture is the peacock, and its beautiful feathers. The photographer wanted to show the feathers of the peacock, and how they each seem to represent an eye, looking for its mate. I loved the peacocks feathers, wide open, and every eye is perfectly showing.

  6. Lazy boysWapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canadayear: 2009 • The lighting in this picture is natural light. The main thing is the two bears lazily laying on the snow. The photographer wanted to show how bears tend to “socialize” when they're just chillin’ and taking a quick break from migrating to a new location. I like this picture because the bears are just laying down, like they’re so cool, and they look so funny, it reminds me a coke commercial.

  7. Tiger eyesMadhya Pradesh, Indiayear: 2009 • The lighting in this picture natural light. The main point in the photo is the tiger and his eyes. The photographer wanted you to see how a tiger rests and keeps quiet, while he looks for his prey with his attentive eyes. I like this picture better than others because I like how the colors look of the tiger, compared to the grass, and how the eyes of the tiger are so bright.
